Since its foundation in 2002, the Scuola di Pace has used its educational formats to promote peace, non-violent conflict resolution, respect for human rights, intercultural coexistence and tolerance, and the ending of all discrimination.
One of the focal points is the analysis of mechanisms of violence in different contexts and epochs. Fundamental to this is the study of the circumstances that make violence possible and those actors who carry it out.
The extensive experience of the Scuola di Pace shows that researching the contexts of perpetrators and embedding them in the transmission of knowledge requires special sensitivity. The extent of the complexities and problems in examining the material collected here often only become apparent at second glance.
